8U and 6U information for 2026-2027 Season
8U
Now that you have registered your child to play with the Rockets, you will likely have a number of questions about what to expect including games, practices and equipment. Please click the resource tab to see some FAQs regarding getting started. Be sure that your player has the correct equipment.
Regular season:
Evaluations: Players attend 1-3 evaluations where we score them on skating, passing, shooting and decision making. At the end of evaluations players are placed on teams based of levels: Red (top), White (middle), and Blue.
Practices will take place 2-3 times per week. Practices will be held on Wednesday evenings at Brentwood Ice Rink (5:30pm or 6:45pm) and Friday evenings at Creve Coeur (5:00pm or 5:55pm). Groups will take turns being the earlier/later group each week.
Players may also have practices at the Rockets Training Center located at 8263 Brentwood Industrial Dr, St. Louis, MO 63144
Games will take place on Saturdays and/or Sundays beginning in October. Teams may elect to participate in one or more jamborees/tournaments during the season.
Please have you player dressed in full gear and ready to be on the ice in plenty of time for practices and games. This typically takes 15 - 30 minutes before the scheduled event.
Goals of this program are to develop skating and puck handling skills through a variety of drills and games as well as to have fun and enjoy the game.
The 8U Draft will take place at 2:00 PM, during the Rockets Launch Party on 8/29. This is when we will reveal the teams and rosters for the upcoming season.
8U Mite Boards
With 8U playing half ice, it is each team's volunteers to set up and take down these boards. Please watch this video as we need everyone to help with this task during Rockets home games.

Regular season:
An evaluation will take place at the first practice. Rockets instructors will work with players to assess skill level over a series of practices. Balanced teams will be formed to play cross-ice against teams in our area. Some intra-squad games will also take place.
Practice will take place once a week. Practice will be held on Friday evenings at Webster Groves. Additional practice times may become available on Saturdays at Creve Coeur later in the season.
Friday practices: 5:45-6:45pm @ Webster Groves Ice Rink.
