U8 Game Format

8U Officiating Guidelines

  • Referees will drop the puck at center-ice every 90 seconds or when goals are scored. Referees will drop the puck when one player from each team is ready. Do not wait for both teams to get set.
  • Referees will carry two blue pucks at all time.  When a goal is scored they will immediately move to center ice and drop the second puck.  The first puck can be retrieved when play resumes.

  • In the event of a frozen puck by a goalie, the attacking team will be instructed to back away to give possession to the defending team.

  • When a penalty occurs, the referee will escort the offending player off of the ice and that team will not be able to replace him until the next buzzer sounds to change players.  That player will also not be allowed to return to the ice until his next regular shift.

  • Play will be stopped for injuries and players will be instructed to take a knee while injured player is evaluated.

  • It is the referee’s task to keep play moving!!
